STEM 10th grade field trip

As we mentioned earlier in the semester, we have a field trip coming up.  On Tuesday, April 3, we will be taking the students to both IBM and Brookhaven College.  This trip will be focusing on Geographical Information Systems (GIS).  GIS is a growing, high-demand field.  GIS is an integration of hardware, software, and data.   It allows users to capture, manage, analyze, and display all kinds of geographically referenced data.  Businesses and governments alike use GIS to make a whole host of decisions and plans.  Brookhaven College has been fortunate to develop one of the leading GIS programs in the country.  They are making the first part of the program available to our students through Dual Credit starting next year.

While at IBM, the students will get a chance to see many of the behind-the-scenes happenings at IBM and learn more about IBM’s work in GIS.  From there, students will travel to Brookhaven for lunch (students will bring a sack lunch) and then tour the labs.  They will get to meet with the professors and learn more about the GIS program.

·         Permission forms need to be returned by Friday 3/30
·         There is no cost for the trip
·         All students must bring a sack lunch
·         We will meet at the horseshoe at 8:20
·         We will return to CHS approximately 2:30
·         All students must wear a STEM/Engineering Shirt for the trip.

We are in need of 4 chaperones for the trip.  If you are interested, please contact Mike Yakubovsky at myakubovsky@coppellisd.com

Thanks

Pot Luck Dinner Reminder

Dear CHS Engineering Booster Club members,

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break last week. This is a reminder e-mail about our general meeting scheduled for this Thursday evening. Please connect to the link at the bottom of the page for the potluck dinner mysignup sheet. Hope to see you there.

Our March EBC general meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, 2012. This should be a very exciting and informative meeting for the parents, as the students will be providing brief presentations about their respective projects and upcoming competitions. We will also be hosting another EBC Potluck dinner. Our December general meeting/potluck dinner was exceptionally well attended so let's strive to make the Spring Potluck as successful, if not more so.

This will be our last potluck social for the 2011-2012 school year, so please plan to attend.

I have attached a link for the potluck dinner mysignup sheet in order to help determine how many people plan on attending the function and what to bring. I'll be checking the sheet daily. As it fills up with names, more spots will be added to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend.

Please note that the students and faculty will be attending the event once again, so please sign up early so we can plan accordingly. We want to make certain we have enough food for everyone who attends.

As always, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.
